The Fourteenth Sunday after Trinity

The Cry of Faith: Lord, Have Mercy
The ten lepers cried out from a distance, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!” (Luke 17:11–19). Their condition cut them off from God and others. So also do the works of the flesh cut us off from God and others. “Those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God” (Gal. 5:16–24). Thus we cry out with the lepers, “Lord, have mercy; Christ, have mercy; Lord, have mercy,” eagerly seeking His good gifts. Jesus said to the lepers, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed. So too, we walk by faith and not by sight, being confident of Jesus’ help before we see any evidence of it, trusting that Jesus’ cleansing words of forgiveness will restore us to wholeness in the resurrection. Let us be as the one leper who returned to the true High Priest to give Him thanks and glory. For Jesus bore our infirmities in His sacrifice at Calvary. His words are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh (Prov. 4:10–23).

College Bible Study and Meal As school starts again, we are happy to invite our college students to fellowship, a meal, and Bible Study on Tuesday evenings at 5:30 pm. All college students are welcome! Members, please check the bulletin board to sign up to bring a meal.
Story of Scripture Each Thursday from 5:30-6:30 pm, strengthen your biblical literacy and grow in your understanding of God’s Word. Each week, participants will read 6-10 chapters at home. Class time will then be devoted to reviewing what was read, answering questions, and connecting the theology of Scripture to our lives today. Together we will move quickly, yet thoughtfully, through the major stories of the Bible, gaining both a big-picture grasp and a deeper appreciation of God’s Word for our life. For September 10th, please read Matthew chapters 22-28.
Bonfire and Hymn Sing Vicar Landrey would like to invite all college students to a bonfire in the Vicarage yard on Friday, September 11 at 6:30 pm. A meal of brats and hot dogs will be provided, with S’mores to follow! Anyone who would like to bring additional treats is welcome to do so.
Choir rehearsals Thursdays at 6:45 p.m. beginning September 10th. We are tentatively planning a general every-other-Sunday singing schedule (with the exception of occasional back-to-back festivals), meeting in the Loft at 10 a.m. If you would like to join us or have any questions, please come to a rehearsal or contact Colleen Davis @ 812-878-1145, or email colleen.davis@indstate.edu.
