The Sunday of the Resurrection at Nain

Jesus Calls forth Life from Death
A large funeral procession carrying the only son of a widow is confronted by another large procession, Jesus and His followers. Death and Life meet face to face at the gate of the city (Luke 7:11–17). Filled with compassion, Jesus comes into direct contact with our mortality in order to overcome it. He touches the coffin and speaks His creative words of life, “Young man, I say to you, arise.” Jesus does what is neither expected nor requested. For through Christ, God the Father “is able to do far more abundantly than all we ask or think” (Eph. 3:14–21). Jesus bore our death in His body that we may share in His resurrection. Even as Elijah stretched himself out three times over the Zarephath woman’s son (2 Kings 17:17–24), God stretched Himself out over us in the threefold application of His name in the baptismal water, breathing new and everlasting life into us. “To Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”

College Bible Study and Meal  Our college students are invited to fellowship, a meal, and Bible Study on Tuesday evenings at 5:30 pm. Members, please check the bulletin board to sign up to bring a meal.
The Story of Scripture  Wednesdays, 4:30–5:30 p.m. Strengthen your biblical literacy and grow in your understanding of God’s Word. Each week participants will read 7–9 chapters at home (about one chapter a day). Class time will be devoted to reviewing what was read, answering questions, and connecting the theology of Scripture to our lives today. Together we will move quickly, yet thoughtfully, through the major stories of the Bible, gaining both a big-picture grasp and a deeper appreciation of God’s Word for our life.
YPI kids and families: We are having a strudel-making bonfire on Saturday, October 18th starting at 3:30. We will first make the strudels and then relax around the bonfire, roasting hot dogs, making s’mores and maybe even playing a few games! The strudel-making is super easy and the bonfire will be lots of fun! Bring a lawn chair for sitting around the fire! The sale of these strudels helps fund our adventures, namely our annual trip to Higher Things, so the more hands the better! Members, place your order at the link below or by using the form in the bulletin. Your strudel will come frozen and ready to bake to golden perfection whenever you choose! Yum! https://forms.gle/7DMfzSBcL4vhViFJ7
