Divine Service: Holy Gospel

The Gospel read at the Holy Communion is a selection from the story of the Life of our Lord and is taken from one of the four Evangelists: St. Matthew, St. Mark, St. Luke, and St. John. The Gospel lesson is the story for that day. The Gospel readings take us through the wonderland of the Life of Christ. From Advent to the last Sunday in the Pentecost Season is like going through a picture gallery, where we see the great pictures of Jesus and His great love for us.

When the Pastor announces the Holy Gospel, we sing:

“Glory be to Thee, O Lord.”

After the Holy Gospel, we sing:

“Praise be to Thee, O Christ.”

“The Little Service Book” was written by the Rev. Berthold von Schenk (1895-1974), pastor of Our Saviour—New York, as an explanation of the Common Service for children.
