Prayer for Pastor Sutton

Please continue to pray for Pastor Sutton, who is hospitalized.  Here is a guide to assist you and to include as part of daily prayer at home.

O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare Your praise. (Psalm 51.15)
Make haste, O God, to deliver me; make haste to help me, O Lord. (Psalm 70.1)
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

Psalm 27.1, 4–5, 7–8, 13–14 he Lord is my light

The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?

The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
One thing have I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after:

that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to inquire in his temple.

For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble;

he will conceal me under the cover of his tent; he will lift me high upon a rock.
Hear, O LORD, when I cry aloud;

be gracious to me and answer me!
You have said, “Seek my face.”

My heart says to you, “Your face, LORD, do I seek.”
I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the LORD

in the land of the living!
Wait for the LORD;

be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD!

St. Matthew 4.23-24 Jesus Ministers to Great Crowds

And he went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction among the people. So his fame spread throughout all Syria, and they brought him all the sick, those afflicted with various diseases and pains, those oppressed by demons, those having seizures, and paralytics, and he healed them.

Romans 8.26–32, 35–39 He who did not spare His own Son

The Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified. What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written, “For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.” No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Lamentations 3.22–26 The love of the Lord never ceases

The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases;

his mercies never come to an end;

they are new every morning;

great is your faithfulness.

“The LORD is my portion,” says my soul,

“therefore I will hope in him.”

The LORD is good to those who wait for him,

to the soul who seeks him.

It is good that one should wait quietly

for the salvation of the LORD.

Prayers

Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be Thy name,
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven;
give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver [+] us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Father of mercies and God of all comfort, our only help in time of need, look with favor upon Your servant, our pastor, Jacob Sutton. Assure him of Your mercy, comfort him with the awareness of Your goodness, preserve him from the temptations of the evil one, and give him patience in his tribulation. If it please You, restore him to health, or give him grace to accept this affliction; through Jesus Christ, our Lord;

Lord God, Give insight, skill, and alertness to the doctors and nurses and all others who will be ministering to the bodily needs of Your servant Jacob Sutton that, blessed by You, their tender care may serve to the healing of his sickness and lead to a speedy return to health; through Jesus Christ, our Lord;

Almighty and merciful God, look with favor upon the family of our Pastor, and all families who are affected by the virus.  Give them strength to endure this time of distress and separation, and comfort them with the peace which only comes from You. Visit, O Lord, their home, and keep all harm and danger far from them. Grant that they may dwell together in peace under the protection of Your holy angels, sharing eternally in Your blessings; through Jesus Christ, our Lord;

Almighty, everlasting God, Your Son has assured forgiveness of sins and deliverance from eternal death. Strengthen us by Your Holy Spirit that our faith in Christ may increase daily and that we may hold fast to the hope that on the Last Day we shall be raised in glory to eternal life; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
